Every living being in this world is different from the other in many ways but one aspect which intensifies the difference in their personalities and makes one from the other completely a separate entity is psyche. Psyche is what is inside ourselves and we can understand it as ‘way of thinking’ however it holds a much broader meaning than that. Our whole personality depends on our psyche the way we think, the way we precept, and it also includes our beliefs. This is what differentiates one human from the other as physical appearance becomes worthless majorly because it is the personality that matters and personality is mostly dependent on the psyche of an individual. And in this context, even twins differ from one another like many of them have differences in personalities.

Psyche is not limited to individuals

It is rather more interesting to see that not only individuals but nations also have a psyche infact any group, country, etc have their own psyche, the way in which they think and we can easily see the examples around us. Take two countries one which is clean from corruption, pollution, dirt, etc and the other which is submerged in all sort of evils and compare their psyche you will notice a difference in their environment with respect to thinking and their behavior and same can be said for any group like a sports team, there are teams which have greatly skilled players but they don’t win against so-called big teams and the reason is their psyche. Now let’s see what the Quran says about the psyche, in Quran Allah says that “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a nation until they change what is in themselves.” (Quran – 13:11). In this part of an ayah Quran is referring to the importance of psyche and telling how the conditions can be changed. We have seen people complaining about their life conditions thinking about others living a better life than them, the difference is not in their life conditions but in their way of thinking the moment it will change the world will change for them. Muslims as a whole are suffering today and there is a solution for them in this Ayah but before discussing the solutions to the present situation we must understand how changing the way of thinking has changed people’s lives.

When Psyche changed the life

Everyone who is successful has gone through the tough times but unlike people who succumb to the difficulties a successful person or a group has a different view to the situations and that’s what makes them so different from others, You can see many examples around and in the world in every field of the people who beat all the odds to reach their goals. Like Stephen Hawking, diagnosed with a disease that paralyzed him at the young age of 19 and doctors suggested that he will be dying soon, he became the greatest scientist of the modern world with his way of thinking which set his vision towards opportunities rather than the setbacks.

Another example is Károly Takács a soldier in Hungarian Army and his dream was to win an Olympic medal in the shooting but he couldn’t take part in the event in 1936 as he was a Sergeant and policies didn’t allow him however after these restrictions lifted he was preparing for the national games and then for 1940 Olympics but again something happened which put his entire shooting dream at stake, he almost lost his right hand when a grenade exploded during an army training but it never stopped him from winning the national games as he practiced with his left hand which is considered almost impossible for any sportsperson. Now was the turn for his dream event Olympics 1940 which got canceled due to world war second, same happened to 1944 Olympics event. The whole scenario was enough for anyone to quit but he didn’t and became the first shooter to win two Olympic gold medals in 1948 and 1952.

In Japan, you can see how a group can change it’s a condition by changing its psyche when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed and Japan as a country were on its feet but then look the Japan of today, they set their ways towards development and we all know what they have become. And we all know about the life of Prophet Mohammed (SAW), if you look at his life journey it was full of challenges he lost both his parents while he was a child, he didn’t have many resources to make his life easy yet he was always considered to be the most truthful and trustworthy. After getting prophethood many impactful leaders denied him and opposed him to their full potential but it was his strong conviction and right way of thinking due to which despite all the opposition and oppression he succeeded.

Actions and Psyche

Actions reflect your psyche, if the psyche is at the right place and in right direction actions will surely be right however action and psyche are interdependent. When you correct you’re thinking it is indeed necessary to sync your actions with it, so that psyche remains consistent. Otherwise, we listen to motivational lectures from different scholars and feel good but it remains for a limited time and then everything comes back to the way it was before. If you are not motivated towards actions it means you need to work on your way of thinking. Imagine someday you are extremely tired, don’t have any energy to do something but then you get a call that your dream project or job or anything you loved a lot will be fulfilled by taking certain action immediately in a certain time, think what you will do. Take another example you are in the same situation tired and exhausted but then you get a call, someone, very close to you is in a serious health condition, again you will forget everything because in both examples psyche is changed and you will do what you had never expected from yourself. This is the impact of Psyche on your actions.

Change the way you think conditions will change themselves.
